Homemade Calzone Recipe
This is one recipe you can have fun with to create your own Homemade Calzone. You can add many different types of meats or vegetables such as; Pepperoni, Sausage, Ham, Chicken, Mushrooms, Peppers, etc. It’s your creation so have fun making it.
Ingredients
- 1 tube of Pizza dough (We use store brands or you can buy Pillsbury)
- 15 oz. Sargento® Light Ricotta Cheese
- 8 oz. Sargento® Shredded Reduced Fat Mozzarella Cheese
- 1 package of Pepperoni sliced
- 28 oz. Progresso Ready Crushed Tomatoes
- 3 Garlic cloves crushed or finely sliced
- Olive Oil
- 2 tbsp of Oregano
- 1 tsp of black pepper
Directions
- In a medium pot, fry garlic in olive oil until garlic is slightly brown.
- Let pot cool before adding Crushed Tomatoes.
- Cook sauce for 20 to 30 minutes on low heat stirring occasionally.
- When sauce is done, set aside.
- Use non-stick spray on a cookie tray before spreading out the dough.
- Spread dough thoroughly without creating holes.
- Spread about a 1/3 of the tomato sauce about 3 inches from the dough edge.
- Add ½ the container of Ricotta Cheese – Try not to spread this too much as you will need to fold the dough to make the Calzone.
- Add ½ a bag of Pepperoni or any other meat or vegetable you would like to add.
- Sprinkle Mozzarella Cheese evenly, don’t be shy with this.
- Sprinkle Oregano and Black pepper.
- Carefully fold each edge towards the middle to form the Calzone and squeeze the edges together to make a seal. Fold all other sides towards the middle and again make a seal.
- Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
- Cook Calzone 15 to 17 minutes or until golden brown on the edges.
Cut into 2 pieces and serve.
You can freeze the leftover tomato sauce for the next time you would like to make a Calzone or Pizza.
Enjoy!
